UV Defense Line
Raw Botanicals is the Leader in 100% Organic Sun Protection
Raw Botanical 100% Organic Sun care products Are Absolutely Safe, Even For Children!
Raw Botanicals chooses to use 100% natural mineral sun blocks in the SUN product line for skin protection to maintain the normal healthy functioning of internal organs and reproductive hormones. Raw Botanicals UV protection line mineral sun blocks are able to protect against UVA, UVB and UVC sun rays.
Recently released scientific studies by Switzerland's Institute of Pharmacology and Toxicology conducted in 2001 prove that chemical sunscreens have unintended detrimental consequences. The chemical compounds in sunscreens can accumulate in body fats, in mother's breast milk and can cause hormonal changes within the body. These chemicals mimic estrogen, and induce hormonal activities, like increasing the size of the uterus in women.
Raw Botanicals offers safe alternatives with Titanium Dioxide to protect from broad spectrum UV rays that burn and photo age skin.
Micro-minerals protect as they build an almost invisible film on the skin to reflect dangerous UVA, B and C rays. Skin is protected against UV damages, sun-induced aging and sunburn. Our organic UV Protection line is safe to use on the entire family!
10 Raw Botanical Sun Tips:
- Apply sun screen carefully and generously. Re-apply after swimming.
- Apply sun protection even when you are in the shade as 40% of the UV radiation will still get through.
- In the beginning of the summer, use a SPF 20 and up. Do not stay in the sun for too long on the first sunny days, but accustom your skin gradually.
- The best protection for under Make-up is or Yang Yang Miracle Cream SPF 20. Use a small amount and put make-up on top after a few minutes.
- Pay particular attention to babies and children, they do need extra protection with clothing and a hat. Pediatricians recommend keeping babies below 6 months in the shade and minimizing exposure to direct sunlight.
- Sunlight is strongest between 11 am and 3 pm. Avoid these times.
- When traveling, keep in mind: snow and water intensify the UV rays through reflections, so apply a higher SPF - 30 and up. Near the equator and in the mountains, sun rays are more intense, so apply higher sun protection - SPF 30 and up.
- When playing sports, keep in mind: swimming and sweating removes sun screen, always re-apply.
- Women, especially while being pregnant or breastfeeding, keep in mind: do not use synthetic sun screens, they are known to accumulate in the body, and influence the hormonal system. They were also found in breast milk.
- After Sunbathing, use our moisturizing Lavender After Sun Treatment with vitamin c ester to moisturize, heal and nurture your skin.
Understanding SPF
Sun Protection Factor (SPF) indicates how long you can stay in the sun without skin irritation or getting sunburned by UVB rays. There is no standard to measure protection for UVA rays yet.
Here's how to calculate your SPF:
- Rate yourself
Select your skin type. The corresponding amount of time indicates how long you can stay in the sun before burning.
Fair skin - 10 minutes
Olive skin - 15 minutes
Dark skin - 20 minutes
- Select the SPF
Note which SPF is stated on the product, e.g. SPF 20 is selected.
- Calculate your protection time
The amount of time can stay outside before burning:
Multiply SPF with your skin type. E.g. 20 (SPF) x 15 (olive skin) = 300 min.
Result = time in minutes before burning. With SPF 20, olive skin can stay out before burning for 5 hours.
Synthetic Sunscreen Chemicals to Avoid:
- 4-Methyl-Benzylidencamphor
- (4-MBC)
- Oxybenzone
- Benzophenone-3
- Octyl-Dimethyl-Para-Amino-Benzoic Acid(OD-PABA)
- Homosalate(HMS)
Understanding UV rays
UVA (Ultraviolet-A): UVA penetrates the skin deeper than UVB and causes wrinkling and photo aging. UVA may directly cause some skin cancers, including melanomas.
UVB (Ultraviolet-B): Causes sunburn faster than UVA light. Causes basal and squamous cell carcinomas.
